ABSTRACT

There are environmentally conscious practices and policies in place for the Sol Rally Barbados, but there is a commonly held view among residents that much of it is done simply to meet the standard basic levels or as a civic duty. In the case of noise pollution, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has adopted a noise limit based on the rules set by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). Although the FIA has rules in regard to carbon emissions for competition vehicles, there are no standards in place for carbon emission control in motorsport events in Barbados. This is due to the fact that there is a general lack of environmental policies on air pollution from vehicles in Barbados. As a result, carbon emission control standards are not applied to motorsport events in Barbados. Under competition rules, as they relate to noise pollution, an adopted noise limit of 108 decibels for competitive vehicles is in place, which is the standard set by the FIA. Also in place are rules governing the service areas where there is a zero-garbage policy and the protection of service areas by the mandate of appropriate ground cover.
