ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the strategy used to evaluate an arts-based health education program developed for patients with dementia and their caregivers. 1 An interprofessional team consisting of a neuropsychologist, professional artists, and research psychologist developed the program design and evaluation strategy. Together, the team conceptualized and developed the health education program through its full program life cycle – from initial planning through sustained operation. Unobtrusive evaluation strategies were integrated into program implementation. Multiple types of evaluation data were collected and analyzed by the team; results were put to immediate use in improving program implementation. In the end, evaluation findings and recommendations will serve as authentic evidence for justifying program continuation and expansion.
