ABSTRACT

From the point of view of an artist like Pablo Picasso, living is the vehicle for the making of art – in fact, longer life gives time for the creation of masterful art (Galenson, 2006). More time to live means more time to practice, to understand, and to gain insight, making one better able to create something new of value – and this is true not just for artists, but for everyone. This chapter will explore the creative process and its central role in aging vitally as well as in coping with chronic illness and caregiving.
