ABSTRACT

Since the 1948 United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and its subsequent dissemination, the laws and logic of human rights have saturated the globe, transforming the ways in which humans speak of and imagine themselves and others. The chapter highlights memorable moments, debates, identifications, and disassociations that occurred over the period of 13 weeks and ultimately aim to demonstrate the unmatched value of a globally networked course from a student perspective. Direct human interaction and intellectual collaboration across boundaries effectively highlighted the unique humanity of the individuals interacted with, as well as demonstrated the distinct understandings individuals come to have about themselves and others. Advancing education in the direction of global integration promotes more responsible involvement with issues outside an individual's borders and challenges students to consider issues with more active engagement, requiring them to acknowledge that their understanding of an issue is automatically affected by where their evaluations are situated.
