ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the "how" alternative models of pedagogy, approaches to the subject and assessment to support the "what" and offers some ideas from school case studies, approaches, and conversations. Outstanding teachers regard the National Curriculum Programme of Study (PoS) as a minimum and offer considerable contextually relevant enrichment opportunities. The change of curriculum with its promise of greater freedom to schools is a terrific opportunity to review and adapt Information and Communications Technology (ICT) schemes of work. In Computing and ICT activities, pupils should be encouraged to model the systems design process, which helps develop higher thinking skills and maps well to Bloom's taxonomy as a means of assessment. The rising use in schools of online video, combined with increased pupil access to technology, has helped drive flipped learning methods, which aim to improve student outcomes by offering more engaging, individualised, student-driven learning opportunities.
