ABSTRACT

It is the ninth episode in the first season of the remodelled BBC classic children’s television program Doctor Who. The new series is shiny, loud, bombastic. The new Doctor is angry, lonely, reflective and Northern. Each episode of the new series buzzes with special effects and edgy contemporary ideas about sexuality and morality, good and evil. But this moment is quiet. The Doctor slips into a soliloquy while the camera cuts between the listening girl-in-plaits and the character-filled ‘handsome’ face of the ninth generation Doctor. Set during the London Blitz, the soliloquy nostalgically eulogises the British war effort.
