ABSTRACT

The Prevention and Relationship Education Program (PREP) is a well-researched cognitive-behavioral relationship education program whose goal is to help individuals and couples create and maintain satisfying and healthy relationships. PREP accomplishes this goal by equipping participants with practical communication techniques that allow them to constructively manage conflict in their relationships. Participants are taught skills and principles that help them create and maintain satisfying and healthy relationships. Principles fundamental to good relationships are also covered including those related to fun, friendship, sensuality, expectations, commitment, and forgiveness. The PREP curriculum is manualized and PREP-trained leaders teach the curriculum by focusing on major points and concerns, facilitating discussion, answering questions, and providing guided practice of the skills taught. Due to the modular format of PREP, it is easily modified to accommodate time constraints and audience's needs. In the United States, participants from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds such as Native Americans, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Jewish, and Christian have all received PREP training.
