ABSTRACT
The blurring of class divisions and the growth in the size of the middle class are generally recognized as two positive effects of an expansion in education. Indeed, there exists a mutually reinforcing and virtuous relationship between the two. Education creates a broad middle class by opening up new avenues for upward mobility, while the middle class provides the support to further strengthen and expand education and national development.
