ABSTRACT

KEY POINTS: x Many of these functions are tightly controlled by regulation x The need for security against attacks from people both inside

and outside while ensuring full access to those entitled makes design increasingly difficult

x Each Fire and Rescue Authority will have a detailed brief for the design of new fire stations including retained fire stations

x Fire stations are unique buildings and are ‘Sui Generis’ in planning terms. Their location will be determined by the attendance times that the fire and rescue service is required to meet within their ‘fire ground’. Noise and lighting nuisance may need to be mitigated either by the design of the site or by management of these activities
