ABSTRACT
As libraries broaden their social and educational role to become ‘ideas stores’ and ‘knowledge gateways’, there is pressure to
increase the extent of non-library accommodation within their walls. The problem for the architect is how to bring the library and non-library functions into a coherent whole (see Table II).
