ABSTRACT

The Master said, “A young man [or student] should practise filial piety at home. Outside his home, he should be polite and respectful towards his elders. He should be prudent and sincere [xìn 信], and he should be kind to all people and treasure the friendship of the benevolent. When he has cultivated and practised all these virtues, he can then devote his energy to refined studies [wén 文].
