ABSTRACT

Gender bias is so subtle that we barely recognize it. It is so ingrained as to how we define ourselves that it is essentially invisible (Koontz, 1997). In considering the concept of gender equity in testing and assessment, it is important to recognize that tests and assessments have historically served as sifters to filter out not only females, but also language-minority students, students from low socioeconomic levels, and students of color from educational opportunities.
