ABSTRACT

Social network sites (SNS) such as Facebook, Google+, and Twitter have changed the way in which many people around the world use the Internet. Billions of SNS users share hundreds of millions of pictures and send billions of messages every day. This information exchange generates trillions of page views every month through smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and desktops. Regardless of precise statistics generated by the ever-increasing use of SNS, we can doubtlessly conclude that a large portion of our society frequently uses these web-based services. This conclusion has motivated some scholars to research how to use social network sites in order to foster face-to-face and/or distance education, as well as the impact of the use of SNSs on the learning process.
