ABSTRACT

Trot and ballad are two of the most popular genres of Korean mainstream music. These two are markedly different from one another, but were both formed and shaped by the influence of foreign music. Even so, both of these genres have now successfully become indigenized in Korean popular culture. Even though trot and ballad have undergone several changes in musical style since the early days, they are still widely enjoyed by the public. However, there have been little serious studies on them until now.
