ABSTRACT

There is hope that the Millennium Development Goals (the MDGs) and their successors, the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs), will address the issues of equitable development confronting our world today (UN 2012). As the world reaches the MDGs’ measuring point in 2015, the energy dimensions of Sustainable Development have crystallized (Clark 2010). The world now recognizes the importance of energy to development, and the problems caused by a lack of access to energy for all (UN General Assembly 2011; UN SecretaryGeneral 2011; UN Sustainable Development 2014).
