Energy use and draft power in South Asian foodgrain production

Draft animals are a primary source of mechanical energy for agriculture in much of Asia and Africa. The use of draft animals affects billions of people who are dependent on agricultural production for sustenance and income. Despite the increasing use of farm machines, draft animals remain a critically important energy input for agriculture and related rural activities in South Asia. Many studies have demonstrated the great importance of draft animals to agriculture and rural transportation.
