ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the practice of corporate real estate management (CREM) in the context of Africa using Nigeria as a case study and its implications for economic development. It gives an overview of CREM while dealing with data presentation analysis and discussion. The quantitative research methodology was deemed appropriate and adopted. Using companies that are listed with the Nigerian Stock Exchange, a survey was conducted in 2012 where structured questionnaires were administered face-to-face to real estate (RE) managers to ensure a prompt response. The focus on these organisations is because they are likely to occupy substantial RE, and thus will provide sufficient insight into the practices of CREM by these companies. The questions about the organisation's involvement in CREM and CREM strategies are adopted. The chapter undertook an extensive literature review to argue for the need to embrace the strategic use of CREM and highlights new directions for CREM practice.
