ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on treats culture and economic development that looks at cultural challenges in construction projects. It examines multiculturalism, amalgamating complexity, uncertainty and project change in teams, project complexity, uncertainty and change and multicultural project teams. The rationale of culture and economic development in emerging economies is used to understand the variation of cultural factors which influence the success of construction projects and organisational hybridisation. It is essential to assert that the concept of project complexity and cultural complexity has received little in-depth attention in project management literature. The chapter explains issues surrounding multicultural project teams in emerging economies. It reveals both internal and external cross-cultural communication that provides the invisible glue which can hold a dislocated multicultural project team together. It also highlights that cross-cultural uncertainty is one of the principal casual factors underlying project team intercultural integration. Then, it explores the implications of cultural integration and culture identity to understand basic concept of cultural diversity in organisations.
