ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on individual therapy. Primal integration is one of the heaviest forms of therapy, in the sense of going deeply into unconscious material. Accordingly it is not recommended as a first approach to therapy: rather it is for those who have done some form of therapy already, and who now feel ready to go down into the very roots of their neurosis. Because it deals with old and strong emotions, in situations which the person felt were too much to take, there may be a good deal of pain involved. An imaginative therapist can keep track of the client not only at the conscious level of words but also at the symbolic level of imagery and intuition. But the main thing is simply to allow the imagination free rein, so that the therapist is continuously using and cultivating the imagination for what it can offer.
