This chapter presents some of the findings of the research on the living conditions in the women's prison and the level of respect of some of the basic rights of women prisoners in Serbia. It focuses on the architecture of the prison, its capacity and the classification of inmates; material living conditions; and healthcare of women prisoners. The chapter presents the research findings on the allocation of women prisoners and the architecture of the prison facility, its capacity and the classification of females. This is followed by presentation of the results related to the material conditions, including accommodation, nutrition and personal hygiene, and to the healthcare protection of women prisoners. The number of imprisoned women has significantly increased both worldwide and in Europe. Adequate living conditions and respect of the basic human rights of prisoners are key preconditions for the respect of prisoners' dignity and personality.
