ABSTRACT

Southern Spain, with its almost permanently blue skies, is pioneering concentrated solar power (CSP) technology. Renewable energy is a key ingredient in the regenerative development of human settlements. Feed-in tariffs (FITs) especially played a key role by acting as a connecting framework, linking people, policy, energy and economy. Urban agriculture tends to focus on products that require closeness to the urban markets such as vegetables, poultry and eggs, as well as flowers. Cuba's urban agriculture programme also provides good quality seeds, advice on crop rotations, composting methods and the benefits of earthworms. New York City is not a place where one would expect urban agriculture to thrive a city of 8.3 million people; it is one of the most densely populated cities in the United States, with some of the highest real estate values. The Marinka Watershed Area, which mitigates flooding in Metro Manila, lost much of its tree cover by decades of logging, slash-and-burn farming, and by charcoal production.
