ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the specific initiatives that individual countries have taken to build smart cities. It looks at smart cities from the perspective of health support innovations. The chapter considers leadership models that are necessary for stakeholders, including leader corporations, to dynamically form innovation communities as business networks that will make up the foundational business ecosystem elements of smart cities. The smart city project described in the case of business innovation in the high-tech field in which a high level of novelty occurs on the boundaries between organizations. Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (Fujisawa SST) requires its participants to engage in practical, political and pragmatic methods that transcend the information processing and interpretive approaches to transform existing knowledge. The purpose of this chapter was to consider the managerial factors needed for the creation of innovation through the analysis of the case study of Fujisawa SST, an urban construction led by Panasonic in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
