ABSTRACT

Bond University's Globalisation and Development Centre partnered with Nanyang Technological University's Economic Growth Centre to host a collaborative workshop on Economic and Policy Developments in East Asia. The event was held in October 2011 with papers presented by academics and policy-makers from Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. A variety of topics based around three key themes were discussed: macroeconomics and trade, labour and social issues, and taxes and government spending. Keynote addresses were given by Professor Norman Gemmell, the then Chief Economist at the New Zealand Treasury, and Professor Charles Horioka from Osaka University's Institute of Social and Economic Research.
