ABSTRACT

The United States of America (USA) possesses natural areas of unique beauty and iconic landscapes, which attract large numbers of visitors from around the world. While there are several federal agencies that manage public lands in the USA, some of the most well-known public land units in the country, including the iconic Glacier National Park (NP), Yosemite NP, Grand Canyon NP, and many others, are all under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service (NPS). The NPS’s mission is to: ‘preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations’ (NPS, 2014).
