ABSTRACT
The 2012 World Development Report on Gender Equality and Development identifi ed women’s voice, agency and participation as major priorities, both for their economic implications and because of the intrinsic value of equality among genders. At the same moment, India continues to grapple with its status as one of the most gender-unequal nations in the world, coupled with stagnant economic development particularly in its rural regions.
