ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the new model that sustains continuous change in a new culture that focuses on learning. 'Sustaining the unsustainable: reframing global learning for the twenty-first century' acknowledges fundamental challenges of the times and how unprecedented technical capability in the form of mobile learning can be used to meet current vocational and economic challenges. The irony of sustaining mobile learning, which itself is something of a moving target is that one need a dynamic, protean platform that can adjust quickly and react to new technologies and their social application to provide ongoing support. A set of threshold conditions creates a framework of minimum requirements that need to be present as precursors of mobile learning sustainability. The nature of competition in higher education brings into focus issues of the sustainability of mobile learning. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide valuable information about how students learn and develop teamwork skills, and critical thinking.
