ABSTRACT

Introduction The motto for the modern Olympic Games is “Citius, Altius, Fortius; Faster, Higher, Stronger.” The phrase conjures up images of an athlete sprinting down a track or a high jumper leaping through the air, or a weight lifter pressing a weighted barbell over their head. But behind these successes lay thousands of hours of training integrated with the most up-to-date technology and sport science. Athletes’ bodies serve as objects to be scrutinized, tested, and evaluated. They are poked, prodded, measured, and tested constantly in order to optimize their training and ultimately their performance in order to win.
