ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explains the collective pride as an area of theorizing and research analogous to studies of collective guilt and to explore emotional features of collective pride and hubris beyond what has been examined in ostensibly similar studies of patriotism and nationalism. Theorizing about cultural institutional forms and manifestations of collective pride and collective hubris in organizations is an important extension of analogous work on nationalism and patriotism. Nationalism and patriotism research has typically focused on aggregate and cultural models of national identity but has not addressed manifestations of analogous group emotions in organizations, community and online social networks or in other non-national or transnational forms. The research topic of children's experiences of national events and collective emotions and emotional climates appears to be promising if a much more diverse range of participants, locations, group and intergroup contexts are examined.
