ABSTRACT
The authors argue that consumption and waste require greater attention from environmental ethicists, at both a systemic and an individual level. Political, economic, and cultural strategies are surveyed for creating a more just and sustainable materials economy at a systems level. Although personal consumption decisions make little difference to larger systems, the authors nevertheless defend morally scrutinizing our material habits and lifestyles at an individual level.
