ABSTRACT

The world of a college professor is one where professional, social, and personal expectations coexist and intermingle; it is also sensitized by these expectations that sometimes intersect and transcend racial, gender, and cultural boundaries. Teaching, itself, is a field of inquiry that demands that teachers (re)discover the world and share that information with their students. At the same time, teachers must constantly assess their teaching styles to better match the preparation levels and learning styles of the students. My main goal for teaching is to make a difference in the lives of students. I want to empower them with skills that will be useful far beyond my classroom, generate an appreciation for the subject matter, and teach in a manner so that they understand the material presented and its importance.
