ABSTRACT

This chapter offers singular and partial experience of this process. Because experiences of the job market vary, the very first recommendation, especially for those who are going on the market for the first time and cannot draw on the lessons of their experience, must be to collect as many stories as once can about successful and unsuccessful job searches from colleagues and friends. It focuses on this central concern in the job search: fit. This issue of fit raises a final dilemma, especially for candidates who are queer, people of color, or queer people of color. Think about the campus visit as consisting of three major parts: the job talk, the teaching demonstration, and one-on-one interviews. Placing the content on power point slides will make it easy to move from one talking point to another. Once the slides are ready, arrange with friends or colleagues who have been through the interview process to conduct a mock phone interview.
