ABSTRACT

Cities are at the heart of the economy, as they make up 80 percent of the world’s economic output and more than 50 percent of the world’s inhabitants (Pourbaix, 2012). The social advantages of good PT are unquestionable. An efficient mobility system within a city is a necessary condition to create economic opportunities, facilitate trades, and open access to markets and services. The implementation of a good PT service, as the backbone of any efficient urban mobility system, helps cities to be more dynamic, competitive, and create more jobs. As a matter of fact, PT networks play an essential role in the global appeal of cities, which become more appealing to businesses and tourists when movement around the city is easy.
