ABSTRACT

The Republic of Slovenia, a state surrounded by Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Italy, became an independent state in 1991. Since 2004, it has been a full member of the European Union. After the proclamation of the new constitution in 1991, all legal provisions in force at that time remained, except where they were in conflict with human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Act are consistent with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
