ABSTRACT

Over the past 30 years, investigative interview techniques in Brazil have undergone development. This development can best be understood in view of the great socio-political changes which have occurred in the country. From 1964 to 1985, Brazil was under the rule of a military dictatorship. During the 1980s, a transition to democracy occurred, which culminated in the elaboration of a new Constitution in 1988. The congressmen who took part in the creation of the constitutional text had been elected directly by the people two years before. Brazilian citizens also participated in the elaboration of laws, through public hearings held in the National Congress (Codato, 2005). The 1988 Constitution was a milestone for citizenship and human rights.
