ABSTRACT

Justus Lipsius (1547–1606) in many ways revived ancient Stoicism at the end of the Renaissance and was the founder of Neostoicism, a movement which flourished from about 1580 to 1660. During these years, the influence of this renewal of Stoicism was predominantly in the areas of ethics, politics, and the arts (see Lagrée 2010: ch. 7). 2
