ABSTRACT
In the northeast of Brazil there has been a long tradition of oral poetry about various themes. One of the striking aspects of the Brazilian booklet literature is the diversity of topics covered, which makes it distinct from the so-called string literature produced in Portugal in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As Marcia Abreu reminds us, Unlike the Portuguese string literature, which lacks uniformity, booklets literature produced in northeastern Brazil is quite coded. In contemporary production, there are two trends: on the one hand, the string literature format of fables and fairy tales predominates among string writers of different states. Few scholarly works about children's literature in Brazil have made a deep study of the relations between oral literature and literature produced for children. It is as if children's literature were something indigenous, born in some privileged minds of a few writers.
