ABSTRACT

The chapters in this volume covered a range of topics and issues related to the emerging intersection of learning technologies and the body. They included design processes, mixed-reality learning environments, embodied agents, multi-touch surfaces, GPS as a tool for learning, dance mats, Kinect sensors, programming languages, museum exhibits, after-school centers, wearable activity trackers, and wearable cameras. The contributing authors to this book each reported on their efforts to understand how embodiment influences learning and their efforts to bring some new interactive technologies into formal and informal learning environments. As can be seen, there is a multitude of ways of interpreting this. Yet even with this multitude, there are some common themes and also some common absences. Now, in this closing section, I ask: What should we as a field that is interested in learning technology and the body consider as we look toward the future?
