ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the impact of the global financial crisis on both organizations and the workforce in general and on human resource management (HRM). It also examines the resultant effects of the crisis the impact on organizations, on the workforce and on both the nature of HRM and the roles of HRM practitioners, in order to identify the implications for HRM practice and the need for further research. The chapter focuses on the concept of a general crisis is developed where the organizations are affected only as part of a broader context beyond any specific organizational crisis. It presents a wider definition of resilience, according to which organizational resilience is associated with all structural, group and individual level actions that ensure the continuation of business operations that remain capable in order to achieve organizational strategies during a period of drastic change such as a crisis.
