ABSTRACT

New Zealand (NZ) has all the facilities of a developed country such as well-developed infrastructure systems, relatively good housing and reasonable transport systems. The country is viewed as having high sporting achievements internationally and has multi-faceted tourism and recreational facilities. The country also has dramatic geological features and significant natural hazards, such as volcanoes, earthquakes and floods. There are three main aspects to investment in the NZ R&D environment: private investment, public investment and industry-Government partnerships. Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ) is a key investor and delivery vehicle for new knowledge to the NZ building and construction sector. It describes itself as an independent and impartial research, testing, consulting and information company providing services and resources for the building industry. The establishment of the Building and Construction Sector Productivity Partnership is a development for R&D investment in the NZ construction industry. The Productivity Partnership aims for a productive, providing a foundation for strong communities and a prosperous economy.
