ABSTRACT

Brazil is the world 2019 fifth largest country, with a total land area of 8.5 million sq km, divided into 26 States and a federal district. According to the census of 2010, conducted by Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica, there are 190.8 million inhabitants, corresponding to the fifth largest population in the word. In economic terms, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Brazil varies between the sixth and seventh position worldwide, competing with the United Kingdom. The technologies associated with the requirements of environmental sustainability, such as those enabling the reduction of energy and water consumption, must be highlighted. FINEP#x2019;s funds originate mostly from the MCTI, created from revenues derived primarily from contributions gained from both the results of the exploitation of natural resources belonging to the state and a proportion of the excise tax.
