ABSTRACT

Like the telephone and the automobile before it, computers have emerged as yet another stubborn technology, we must either master or let life pass us by. But unless you teach at an entirely online school, virtual instruction is not among new inventions you are forced to embrace to live a productive life. At most institutions, faculty have a choice. You may either accommodate yourself to digital education-or safely ignore it. With only a third of college students in the US taking online courses (Allen & Seaman, 2013), most faculty can comfortably let online learning carry on without them, continuing to teach on campus as if nothing has changed.
