ABSTRACT
Internalizing disorders refer primarily to anxiety and depressive disorders (Ollendick & Sander, 2012). In the most recent version of the DSM-5, seven distinct anxiety disorders are included: generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), separation anxiety disorder (SAD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia), specific phobia, selective mutism, agoraphobia, and panic disorder. Depressive disorders include disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), which is a new diagnosis in the DSM-5, along with major depressive disorder (MDD), persistent depressive disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. For the anxiety and depressive disorders, “other,” “unspecified,” or “due to medical conditions” categories also exist (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
