ABSTRACT

Integrative strategies in the design professions have been generally defined by a rubric that is characterized by the alliances of people and resources fostering a holistic decision process. Sub measures within this rubric include success in bringing together the necessary talents to accomplish a successful project, the optimization of project objectives, a cost benefit ratio that is attractive to the project financial interests, the meeting of environmental aspirations and general sense of efficiency and timeliness. It is a process that is focused on bringing content to deliberations in a timely fashion making it possible to determine significant directions much earlier in the design process. Integrative practices ensure that as much attention is given to the development of an appropriate project program stressing client and user need as to developing the criteria by which the success of the project will be determined. In short integrative practices, whether for integrated project delivery or for integrated project design, constitute a way of seeing.
