ABSTRACT

Security concerns need to be integrated in much the same way as any other design constraint imposed on the project. Ultimately the goal is for the physical security features to maintain an inviting environment and minimize inconvenience to the building users. One of the benefits of aiming for an unobtrusive design is that the building will not attract undue attention of potential attackers. To be successful, the security design needs to be part of an overall multi-hazard approach to the design, so that it does not degrade performance in the event of a fire or natural hazard that is likely to be more prevalent than terrorist attack.
