ABSTRACT

On July 6, 2005, London won its bid to host the 2012 Olympics. The announcement was made at the host city election meeting in Singapore. London’s bid emphasized the theme of diversity, a storyline informed by UK discourses about multiculturalism. The bid delegation took over 30 youth from East London communities to Singapore to show the IOC their commitment to youth and diversity. References to diversity emphasized the cosmopolitan makeup of London in terms of nationalities.
