ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a comprehensive description of performance analysis, its purpose and its broad possible applications. The chapter summarises the approach of biomechanics and notational analysis, through the application of motor control theories, these two different approaches to objective feedback can combine to help the sports performer, coach and manager. Performance analysts require a unified approach, examining interactions between players and their individual skill elements. Notational analysis is the way of recording performance, so the performance can be quantified in a consistent and reliable manner. Its quantitative and qualitative feedback is accurate and objective. The tactical patterns of play in sports has a profitable source of work for a number of researchers and can be analysed at different levels of development by means of a cross-sectional design. Further is to able the whole process of performance analyses and their applications in generic terms, so it can be applied to any type of sport.
