ABSTRACT

This chapter explains terrorism and provides examples from related feminist research on conflict/violence scenarios in order to outlines possibilities for critical terrorism research. Feminist research into terrorism and counter-terrorism frequently begins with the assumption that which is excluded, scribbled out in the margins, tells more about what is understood than that which is included in the final edit. However, feminist approaches grounded in marginality note that it is not just that women are marginalised, but also that they refuse to stay or acknowledge their marginality. This reflexive approach means that feminist methods, and feminist research, are often located in the margins and from positions of disciplinary homelessness. Considering the daily insecurities of an elite but minority group of Muslim women derived from terrorism-counter-terrorism policies and discourses, her work shows how Muslim women's insecurities are marginalised in the pursuit of an ever-expanding and intrusive war on terror.
