ABSTRACT

Ecosystem services can be described as the benefits people obtain from nature. These benefits are important to human well-being. Ecosystem services is a well-discussed concept in ecological economics and biology. It has been the subject of various publications such as the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment 1 and the TEEB 2 study (The Economics of Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity). The TEEB study has made clear that we not only must protect our ecosystem services and biodiversity, but that we should also value them. It has been suggested that valuing ecosystem services can help in decision-making with regard to ecosystem management. 3
