ABSTRACT
The author started from his old favourite problem, the electromagnetic mass of the electron, which he had treated in his thesis for admission as a lecture. There appeared two English students, Blackman from London and Thompson from Oxford, who had intended to come to Gottingen; when they heard that the author had left, they came to Selva to study with him there. Thus the University of Selva was founded, consisting of a bench in the forest, one professor and two undergraduates. The time of their departure from Val Gardena was approaching. The author knew that F. A. Lindemann was in a leading political position during the war, but he had no idea of Lindemann's actual part in the events. Lindemann was elevated into the ranks of the high aristocracy he adored, by being given the title Lord Cherwell. But the systematic destruction of inhabited areas of cities with the purpose of breaking the will to resist of the civilian population is quite another matter.
