ABSTRACT

I am going to tell a disturbing story about ethical violations committed by my analyst, “Dr. M.”: sexual misconduct with another patient, “Ann,” and breach of my confidentiality by talking to Ann about me. Learning of his betrayal led me to end my very helpful long-term analysis abruptly. I filed a lawsuit that ultimately led to a civil trial before a jury that found him liable. I not only wanted him held accountable for being unprofessional and unethical, I was filled with a righteous moral outrage that propelled me through the ordeal.
